About Sewn By Syd
Meet Sydni
Hi! I'm Sydni, the owner and creator of Sew'n by Syd. I learned how to sew by watching my mother and grandmother, Amma, create clothes, quilts, pillows, and many other creative projects. My mom Amy, has been instrumental in my sewing journey, she's helped support me in multiple ways from taking me to countless trips to Joann's, to lending me her beautiful Rose Husqvarna sewing machine.
Not only do I find sewing therapeutic, I thoroughly enjoy experimenting with different color patterns and aimlessly walking up and down the aisles of craft stores.
My Inspiration
While my mom and maternal grandmother taught me how to sew, my father's mother Nana always emphasized the importance of self-care and hygiene, especially around hair and skin care. Nana taught me how to wrap my hair, emphasized the importance of using sunscreen and always recommended using natural hair products.

Nana is the epitome of Black elegance and takes pride in her hair and skin upkeep, which includes taking the time to tediously wrap her hair in curlers before putting on her head scarf and bonnet every night.

Sewn by Syd's goal is to have every person who wears one of the satin bonnets to feel confident, comfortable, and elegant, just like her Nana.
Why Satin Bonnets
Like many other people with uteruses, I suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which for me, one of the main symptoms was hair loss. Medication and birth control aimed at minimizing symptoms of PCOS, only exacerbated my issues losing my hair.

Hair loss can be linked to loss of confidence, especially for Black womxn, who often hold hair as an integral part of their identity. Part of the motivation to create high-quality satin bonnets was due to my own loss of self-esteem as I lost my hair.

Satin bonnets help protect hair from snagging or tangling while sleeping, and Sewn by Syd bonnets provide a comfortable and stylish way to help promote hair growth and protection.
